"To be, or not to be..."

The Russian stage actor and director, Constantin Stanislavski once said, "The person you are is a thousand times more interesting than the best actor you could ever hope to be."
It took me many years to not only understand the depth of this truth but also the willingness to accept it. As actors, we many times assume the unrealistic burden that we are never good enough just as ourselves. That we must forcefully conjure up some individual completely devoid of all reference to oneself and with debilitating suffering in the name of ‘character.’ How sad…

Because you cannot act as someone else convincingly unless you bring yourself to that character. And you are only able to accomplish that feat if you have some acceptance of who you are. And if you fully embrace that, then you will truly soar.
